چکیده

We consider the motion of a discrete random surface interacting by exclusion with a random wall. The heights of the wall at the sites of Z are i.i.d. random variables. Fixed the wall configuration, the dynamics is given by the serial harness process which is not allowed to go below the wall. We study the effect of the distribution of the wall heights on the repulsion speed.

Repulsion of an evolving surface on random walls

We consider the motion of a discrete random surface interacting by exclusion with a random wall. Two cases are considered: rarefied walls and walls of random height. The dynamics is given by the serial harness process. In the first case, we prove that the process delocalizes iff the mean number of visits to the set of sites where the wall is present by a random walk is infinite. When the surfac...

The serial harness interacting with a wall

The serial harnesses introduced by Hammersley describe the motion of a hypersurface of dimension d embedded in a space of dimension d + 1. The height assigned to each site i of Z is updated by taking a weighted average of the heights of some of the neighbors of i plus a “noise” (a centered random variable). The surface interacts by exclusion with a “wall” located at level zero: the updated heig...

Investigating the Amount of Forces Caused by Solitary Waves on Coastal Walls Using OpenFOAM Software

Coastal walls (dyke) are one of the methods of protecting the coast against coastal erosion and destructive forces of waves. The purpose of this study is to simulate the wave collision with the coastal dyke and compare the results with the laboratory model. Open FOAM open source software and K-ω SST turbulence model were used to simulate the amount of wave consumed by the coastal dyke. Taking i...

Soil Arching Behind Retaining Walls under Active Translation Mode: Review and New Insights

Granular materials have a tendency to exhibit an arching effect by which the load is transferred from yielding parts to adjacent stationary parts. Retaining walls are among those structures that the soil arching plays an important role in the distribution of earth pressures. This paper briefly reviews the development of soil arching theory and its application to different geotechnical projects....

Scale Effects on the Discharge Coefficient of Ogee Spillway with an Arc in Plan and Converging Training Walls

Dam spillways are the structures that lead rightly and safely the outflow downstream, so that the dam integrity can be guaranteed. Many accidents with dams have been caused by an inadequate spillway design or insufficient capacity. To accurately respond the hydraulic spillways, designers use physical modeling for designing this kind of structures. The scale effect in the spillway modeling, as a...
